Thomas Frank has made a confident statement ahead of Tottenham’s UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain in two weeks.
Spurs ticked a lot of boxes in their 1-0 win over Arsenal in Hong Kong, with the Lilywhites managing to keep a clean sheet and allowing just one shot on target.
The Lilywhites will take a lot of confidence from the result as they prepare to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final in Udine.
Spurs fans were previously not too optimistic about their side’s chances against PSG, given how the Parisians dominated in the Champions League last term, but Frank has insisted that Tottenham will be going to Italy looking to win the trophy.
Thomas Frank sets his sights on silverware in his first competitive game in charge
Frank is learning about his side with each passing friendly, but he made it clear that he will not be treating the clash against PSG as a dress rehearsal for the season.
The Tottenham head coach insisted that his and his team’s only focus heading into the clash at Udine is to get their hands on the Super Cup.
When asked if he can learn lessons from the test that his side will have against PSG, Frank told beIN SPORTS: “The lesson I want to learn is that we won. That game will be about winning. No doubt about that. The learning from that game will be one thing: win!
“If, for whatever reason, we shouldn’t win, then we will learn from it. We don’t see it as a test. We see it as two good teams against each other, and we want to win.”
Tottenham face a challenging schedule as the new season draws closer
While Frank’s focus is understandably on helping Tottenham lift their second trophy in a matter of months, he will also have half an eye on Spurs’ opening league game of the season.
Tottenham face an extremely tight turnaround after the Super Cup clash, having just three days between the game against the Parisians and their opening Premier League fixture against Burnley.
The Dane might thus be forced to rotate his squad for the clash against the Clarets, especially given the travel involved for his side, as Scott Parker’s men will be well rested and raring to go for their first game back in the top flight.
