Joao Palhinha is on the verge of becoming Tottenham’s fourth signing of the summer, and Harry Kane believes that his former club are getting a great player.
The Portuguese international emerged as one of the best midfield destroyers in the Premier League during his time at Fulham, with Bayern Munich paying £47.4m to sign him from Craven Cottage.
However, the 30-year-old struggled to get regular game time at the Allianz Arena last season, partly down to injuries, and just a year on, he is now expected to return to English football.
According to various reports, Palhinha will join Tottenham on a season-long loan, with the North Londoners set to have an option to buy for €30m (£26m) next summer.
Harry Kane refers to Joao Palhinha as an animal
One man who knows the Portugal international well is Spurs legend Harry Kane, who has come up against the midfielder many times in the Premier League before watching him in close quarters in Bavaria last season.
The England captain is a big fan of the 30-year-old, referring to him as an ‘animal’ in an interview last year.
The former Spurs striker previously said (via TBR Football): “Pal [Palhinha] is an animal in that defensive midfield role. I’ve had many battles against him. He tackles, he intercepts, he reads the game really well – so he’s a great addition [to Bayern].”
What Thomas Frank thinks of Palhinha’s arrival
It has been revealed by Fabrizio Romano that Thomas Frank is very excited to work with Palhinha at Spurs.
The journalist stated that the Bayern man is exactly the kind of number six that the Danish coach wanted to add to his Tottenham squad.
According to Alasdair Gold, Spurs are confident of offloading a midfielder soon to make room for Palhinha, and based on what we have heard over recent weeks, Yves Bissouma appears the most likely player to leave Tottenham.
