Heung-min Son’s heartfelt farewell has stirred Tottenham supporters to their core, and the emotional reaction online shows just how much the South Korean icon has meant to those at N17.
As the famous cliché often goes, “Do not cry because it is over, smile because it happened.” Well, you cannot tell Tottenham fans not to cry, because after a decade-long stay at N17, club captain Heung-min Son has now confirmed his departure.
Ten years of loyalty, moments of brilliance amidst the turbulence, and finally elation, as Heung-min Son leaves Tottenham Hotspur not just as another player, but as a bona fide club legend.
In his own words, “I came as a boy and leave as a young man” – and no one could argue with that, as Son has come on in leaps and bounds since pulling on a Tottenham shirt aged 23, scoring memorable goals and ending the club’s 17-year wait for a trophy just last season after winning the Europa League.

Tottenham fans react to Heung-min Son exit announcement
It is a painful moment for many fans, who have now taken to X to send messages to their very own club legend.
One fan said: “Build the statue.” Another commented: “Club legend. One of the best Tottenham and Premier League players of all time. What a guy! 💙”
A third simply stated: “Legend.” A fourth Tottenham fan added: “Heung-min Son, you are an absolute legend of the game and of the Premier League. Watching you play has been a delightful experience, but watching you being the man you are, full of grace and respect, has been an even greater joy and honour. You deserve this.”
Another supporter was quick to state that he would be rooting for the next team the club captain joins: “This sucks, but if he joins @LAFC, they would immediately become my favourite @MLS team.”
An emotional fan commented, urging the Korean not to leave: “Man, I actually supported that this was the best time he should leave the club. Now that it is actually happening, I do not know how to feel. Do not go, Sonny, I did not mean it.”
A final fan added: “Thanks for everything, Sonny. You leave us as a club legend and will always be welcomed back home.”

Son is moving closer to reuniting with Hugo Lloris at LAFC
Son’s announcement came before his hometown supporters in a press conference alongside Thomas Frank in South Korea.
The Tottenham captain also revealed that he has been forced to hide his sadness, as he did not want it to affect the dressing room or unsettle the rest of the players.
LAFC are currently reported to be closing in on sealing a move for Heung-min Son, who could very well be playing his final game for Tottenham in their friendly clash against Newcastle in South Korea.
