James Maddison reacts to Heung-min Son’s Tottenham exit with emotional speech

James Maddison has given a touching reaction to the news that Heung-min Son is about to leave Tottenham, with the attacking midfielder admitting that he was extremely disappointed when the forward informed him of his decision.

Son confirmed on Friday that he will be leaving Tottenham this summer, and the announcement has led to an outpouring of emotions on social media from Spurs fans.

The South Korean leaves the club on a high after lifting the Europa League trophy in Bilbao two months ago, which broke the Lilywhites’ 17-year trophy drought.

While the forward has not announced what his next destination will be, according to reports, talks between Son and Los Angeles FC are continuing as the MLS side try to wrap up a deal for the forward.

James Maddison pays an emotional tribute to Heung-min Son

Maddison may have only spent two years with Son in North London, but the attacking midfielder admits that the 33-year-old will be a friend for life.

The former Leicester City man confessed that Son broke the news to him just a few days ago and that it has been a hard pill to swallow.

When asked when he found out about his teammate’s decision, Maddison told Coupang Play: “He told me a couple of days ago that he would be leaving Tottenham this summer. It is weird for me. Since I joined the Premier League, even with Leicester City, Sonny is Tottenham, and Tottenham is Sonny.

“It is weird to think about Tottenham Hotspur without Heung-Min Son. It is a little bit emotional as he is a very close friend. I love him very dearly. He is an amazing human.

“I just don’t have enough time or words to tell you how I actually feel about him. I cannot say enough good words about him. I will miss him very dearly, but he is my friend for life.”

Son admits he made the final decision a while ago

The Tottenham legend did not come to this decision during the Asia tour, with Son admitting that he made the decision to leave a while ago.

Son confessed that his teammates were disappointed to hear his decision, which is not surprising, given how popular a figure he is in the changing room.

Thomas Frank has said that he would have loved to work with Son, but insisted that it was the ‘perfect’ time for the forward to say goodbye, having won a deserved trophy.
