Amazing Lego Sets That Prove These Series Need A Lego Game

Lego has released dozens of video games over the years, with the most popular being the Lego Star Wars games and various iterations on that formula, such as the Batman, Indiana Jones, and Marvel Super Heroes games.

However, we believe there is more space in the Lego video game department than just the same themes we’ve been getting for years. Below, we’ll take a look at several amazing Lego sets that prove we need a video game based on them as soon as possible.

One Piece – Going Merry Pirate Ship

The One Piece Going Merry Lego set.

One Piece is an anime and manga series that has reached worldwide popularity. As it’s been going strong for the past 20 years, it’s received several video game adaptations in a number of different styles and genres, like action RPGs, turn-based RPGs, fighting games, beat ’em ups, and many more.

With the release of the Going Merry Lego set, it’s only natural to want to see the Straw Hats in their very own Lego game. The lighthearted action of the Lego games series would fit perfectly with One Piece’s colorful world, so this one is really a no-brainer.

Dune – Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter

The Dune Ornithopter Lego set.

We may only have one official Dune Lego set, that being the absolutely amazing Ornithopter, but that won’t stop us from dreaming about a Dune-style Lego video game. We’re thinking essentially a combination of Dune: Awakening, an open-world survival crafting MMO, and the Lego survival mode in Fortnite.

Imagine the mechanics of Dune: Awakening; scavenging for resources (Lego pieces), building shelters, and eventually constructing your Ornithopter, piece by Lego piece. At the very least, some Lego Dune-related content in the Fortnite game mode is in order.

Transformers – Optimus Prime

We now have three large Lego Transformers sets, and with every new release, the desire for a Transformers-themed Lego game only grows stronger. Robots and cars have always been a strong suit for Lego, and tons of video games prominently feature robots and cars, so it feels like only a matter of time before these two ideas come together.

It just feels like Transformers, Lego, and video games fit so well together. Driving around as classic Autobots or Decepticons, transforming into robot mode to fight enemies and blast them into Lego pieces. An open-world concept, maybe set on Cybertron, could work really well.

Dungeons & Dragons – Red Dragon’s Tale

Lego is built on the idea of creativity and expression, which just so happen to be core philosophies of Dungeons and Dragons. Luckily, these themes have combined with the Minifigure blind boxes and the incredible Red Dragon’s Tale set.

The Lego Lord of the Rings game kind of serves as a proof of concept of what a fantasy Lego game would look like; now we just need to see it set in the Dungeons and Dragons universe. There’s a lot of potential here with custom Minifigs and maps built using custom Lego buildings.

Exo-Force – Stealth Hunter

The Exo Force Sentai Fortress Lego set.

Exo-Force is a now-retired Lego-original theme inspired by Japanese mecha series. The sets generally revolved around six different pilots, each with their own mecha, who would fight robot lifeforms. Despite its short-lived popularity, the Exo-Force theme produced some of the coolest Lego sets ever, like the Stealth Hunter or Sentai Fortress.

An Exo-Force Lego game could work a lot like Armored Core, where you assemble a custom Lego mecha using various parts, then head into battle to test your building abilities. Since Exo-Force was discontinued over 15 years ago, it’s unlikely to ever happen, but it would still be awesome.

Classic Space – Galaxy Explorer

The Classic Space Galaxy Explorer Lego set.

Classic Space was one of Lego’s most popular themes back in the day (when it was just called Space), and its influence is most easily seen in the iconic astronaut minifigures that have appeared in places like The Lego Movie. While the theme has been discontinued for a while now, it’s gaining a resurgence in popularity due to a combination of nostalgia and the release of the reimagined Galaxy Explorer set.

The simplicity of the theme provides so much potential for a Lego video game. Flying through space in a custom Lego spaceship, landing on unique planets, and setting up a base are just a few things you could do in this game. It’s baffling that Lego has never capitalized on a Space-focused Lego game despite this theme’s popularity.

Mario – The Mighty Bowser

Honestly, any number of the amazing Mario Lego sets that have come out in the last few years proves that a Mario Lego video game would be phenomenal. Unlike the other themes on this list, Mario is already a video game series, and one with dozens of different spin-off ideas, so the two would meld together without issue.

A Mario Kart-style Lego racing game could work, building custom Lego karts for the Mario cast to race in. Or maybe even a side-scrolling platformer in the classic Mario style, but with a Lego coat of paint plastered on top. Even a classic Lego-style action adventure game with Mario characters would be a great concept.
