The 2025 Oregon high school football season doesn’t start until August 29, but The Oregonian/OregonLive wanted to spend the opening days of the month looking ahead to some of the biggest gridiron matchups on the schedule this fall.

All games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff unless otherwise noted.

Here are numbers 75-61 of the most interesting and exciting matchups this fall:

75. Burns at La Grande, Friday, Sept. 19

Two of the top teams in Eastern Oregon square off as the defending 3A champion Hilanders travel north to face the Tigers, who returned to the 4A playoffs last year after a one-year playoff absence.

74. La Salle Prep at Hood River Valley, Friday, Oct. 3

Both teams made the 5A playoffs out of the Northwest Oregon Conference last season. Can the Falcons slow down returning all-state RB Bam Layna on homecoming night?

73. Marist Catholic at Tillamook, Friday, Sept. 5

The defending 4A champion heads to the North Coast to take on the Cheesemakers and their returning junior QB Kevin Hurliman.

72. Wilsonville at North Medford, Friday, Oct. 3

The two-time 5A champion Wildcats take their show down Interstate 5 to Spiegelberg Stadium to challenge themselves against the reigning Class 6A state champion Black Tornado.

71. Burns at North Valley, Friday, Oct. 10

The Hilanders were road warriors in the 3A playoffs en route to the state title last year, so heading across the Cascades to face a Knights team that reached the 3A semifinals shouldn’t daunt them.

70. Banks at Santiam Christian, Friday, Sept. 5

These teams played in Week 1 last year in Banks, with the Eagles hoping to avenge a 35-9 defeat on their home field in Adair Village.

69. Siuslaw at Cascade Christian, Friday, Sept. 19

Two of the top small-school teams in Southern Oregon will meet in this high-powered non-league matchup of returning 3A quarterfinalists.

68. St. Paul at Heppner, 7:30 pm, Friday, Sept. 5

New Mustangs coach Rob Wilson’s home opener replacing Greg Grant isn’t an easy one — they’ll host the reigning 2A champion Buckaroos in a rematch of last year’s semifinals.

67. Clackamas at Tualatin, Friday, Aug. 29

These two 6A open tournament qualifiers from a year ago haven’t met since the 2016 playoffs and last faced off in the regular season in 2009.

66. Cascade at Tillamook, Friday, Sept. 19

Cougars QB Cade Coreseon had himself quite a night last season against the Cheesemakers, throwing for three touchdowns and running for two in a 50-14 victory.

65. South Wasco County at Harper Charter, 1 pm, Friday, Sept. 5

These Eastern Oregon six-man powers met twice last season — with the Hornets winning both times, including in the district title game en route to reaching the state championship game.

64. West Albany at Canby, Friday, Aug. 29

One of the state’s top class of 2027 prospects — Cougars WR/LB Jack Brauckmiller — makes his long-awaited return after an injury derailed his sophomore season.

63. Marist Catholic at Churchill, Friday, Aug. 29

The 4A state champion Spartans and 5A Midwestern League champion Lancers played a classic season-opener a year ago, when Marist Catholic pulled out a 33-30 thriller.

62. Lakeridge at Nelson, Friday, Aug. 29

It’s the first meeting between two schools that hope to challenge the traditional powers in their respective leagues this season.

61. North Valley at Cascade Christian, Friday, Oct. 24

The Challengers swatted away the Knights’ challenge to their league title defense last year 41-6, but North Valley ended up advancing farther in the 3A state playoffs, reaching the semifinals.
