GOG’s Freedom To Buy Campaign Gives Away Controversial Games For Free To Protest Censorship

GOG has launched a new initiative titled Freedom to Buy, aimed at raising awareness around the constantly growing issue of game censorship and delistings.

Several games that have faced content restrictions or platform removals are being made available for free for 48 hours through a dedicated website, FreedomToBuy.games.

The message is that if a game is legal and responsibly made, players should be able to access it without barriers for as long as feasible. The campaign challenges what GOG describes as a “quiet” form of censorship, where titles vanish not for violating laws, but because of decisions made behind closed doors that deem certain games uncomfortable or inappropriate.

The giveaway includes titles that have endured controversy or have been excluded from certain storefronts due to their content or provocative themes.

The exact list of games is as follows:

  • POSTAL 2
  • Agony + Agony UNRATED
  • Leap of Love
  • Being a DIK – Season 1
  • Leap of Faith
  • House Party
  • HuniePop
  • Lust Theory
  • Treasure of Nadia
  • Summer’s Gone – Season 1
  • Fetish Locator Week One
  • Sapphire Safari

In a statement accompanying the launch, GOG emphasized the long-term implications of content being scrubbed due to subjective discomfort rather than legality.

The team’s full message is as follows:

Thanks to the dedication of developers and publishers, we are launching FreedomToBuy.games.

To raise awareness on censorship in gaming, 13 games are now available for free for 48h as a part of stand for creative freedom and preservation. We believe that if a game is legal and responsibly made, players should be able to enjoy it today – and decades from now.

It’s our statement: when games are delisted today because of discomfort, reviving them tomorrow becomes exponentially harder. Visit FreedomToBuy.games to learn more.
