Tottenham could still hijack £20m move as England U21 star waits for N17 offer

Tottenham could still land a talented £20m midfield prospect this summer, despite Ipswich Town making the first move.

It was reported yesterday that Ipswich Town had made the opening move for Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney this summer window.

The Tractor Boys have put their money where their mouth is, submitting a £20 million bid for the young midfielder, which has since been accepted by Middlesbrough.

However, the deal is far from complete, with Hackney and Ipswich Town yet to agree on personal terms, and with interest from Tottenham and other Premier League sides, it seems like the 23-year-old is in no hurry to complete a switch to the Championship side.

Tottenham remain in the race for Hayden Hackney

GIVEMESPORT are now reporting that Tottenham could still end up winning the race to recruit Hayden Hackney.

Spurs have long been linked with a move for the England Under-21 international, with previous reports claiming that Tottenham were observing Hackney’s performance in the Euro Championship that took place this summer.

It is now understood that the Middlesbrough star could be tempted to snub the chance to join Ipswich Town if he is handed an opportunity to head to Tottenham in the coming weeks.

Hayden Hackney wants assurances from Spurs boss Thomas Frank

It sure is a big next step for the England Under-21 star, who is carefully weighing up his options this summer, amid interest from other Premier League sides, not just Tottenham, as United are also interested.

Hackney is determined to be more than a squad player when he walks away from Middlesbrough. This means Thomas Frank will have to give assurances over the amount of game time he can expect to secure at Tottenham, if he is to reject a move to Ipswich.

The Middlesbrough man is capable of playing as a holding midfielder and a central midfielder, which means he would compete with the likes of Bissouma, Gray, Bentancur and Bergvall should he join Tottenham.

It is believed that Hackney is vying to be central to his next side’s plans and is aware that he would be among the first names on the team sheet at Ipswich.

However, the midfielder also has a strong desire to maintain an upward momentum in his career and is eager to prove his ambition at the top level.
