In a twist few would’ve predicted a decade ago, Microsoft-published games accounted for six of the top 10 best-selling titles on PlayStation consoles in the U.S. during the second quarter of 2025. The data, shared by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, covers both physical and digital sales from April through June, and highlights the growing impact of Xbox’s multi-platform strategy.
The top 10 best-selling games on PlayStation (Q2 2025)
- Forza Horizon 5 – Microsoft
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered – Microsoft
- MLB: The Show 25 – Sony
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 – Microsoft
- Doom: The Dark Ages – Microsoft
- Death Stranding 2: On the Beach – Sony
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle – Microsoft
- Minecraft – Microsoft
- Assassin’s Creed: Shadows – Ubisoft
- Grand Theft Auto V – Rockstar Games
Microsoft’s presence is especially notable given that many of these titles, like Forza Horizon 5, Oblivion Remastered, and Indiana Jones, were once considered Xbox exclusives. Their success on PlayStation reflects a broader shift toward cross-platform publishing, driven by the company’s goal to expand reach and revenue beyond its own hardware.
- Xbox content revenue rose 13% year-over-year, fueled by first-party sales and Game Pass growth
- Microsoft’s strategy of releasing key titles on rival platforms is proving commercially viable
- The success of Call of Duty, Minecraft, and Doom reinforces the strength of legacy IPs across ecosystems
Piscatella noted that seeing this list in 2015 would’ve been “unthinkable,” underscoring how much the console landscape has evolved.
Xbox is just getting started on PlayStation
With upcoming releases like Avowed, Towerborne, and Flight Simulator 2024, Microsoft’s cross-platform momentum may continue. However, recent layoffs and project cancellations, including Everwild and Perfect Dark, could challenge its ability to maintain a steady pipeline.
