Rio Ferdinand has reacted to the speculation on Kobbie Mainoo’s future and has revealed what he wants Man United to do with the rumoured Tottenham target.
It has been reported that Kobbie Mainoo is on Tottenham’s radar after the youngster fell down Rubem Amorim’s pecking order during the final months of last season.
Some sources have claimed that Spurs have a realistic chance of landing Mainoo this summer as the youngster’s talks with Man United over a new deal have hit a stalemate.
It was even claimed by GiveMeSport on Monday that Tottenham had initiated contact over a move for Mainoo, with Thomas Frank said to be a fan of the 20-year-old’s versatility.

Ferdinand believes that, far from cashing in on the midfielder, Amorim should be looking to build his Man United team around the youngster.
The pundit suggested that the rumoured Spurs target is even better than Man Utd legend Paul Scholes in some aspects, and suggested that he has the potential to be a world-beater.
When asked about the speculation on Mainoo’s future amid links with Tottenham, Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel: “He’s a better ball carrier [than Scholes], he’s a better manipulator under pressure, and is more press resistant. I heard Amorim talking about demanding more from Kobbie Mainoo. Build it around Mainoo man, I think he is that good.
“I saw him at a top international level at a tournament, to say that this kid you build around him. He’s got the heart, he’s got the bravery, the skillset to go out and play at Old Trafford, I think, and be a dominant player, but you have to give him the keys. He’s got to earn it and listen to the manager. I think this kid could be anything.”
Tottenham wait as Mainoo’s contract talks hit a roadblock
According to various sources, Man United are not prepared to meet Mainoo’s salary demands, with discussions over a new deal thus hitting a stumbling block.
Mainoo’s social media activity shows that he has a soft spot for Tottenham, and one would expect the North London club to continue keeping tabs on his situation.
However, it appears unlikely that the Red Devils would sell such a talented young player to a direct rival.
