Twitch, the popular video game streaming platform, is already gearing up for the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), which promises to be one of the biggest and most anticipated titles in history. This was confirmed by Mike Minton, Twitch’s Chief Monetization Officer, in a recent interview, where he also shared important details about how the game is expected to develop on the platform.

Minton acknowledged that, although GTA 6 won’t be available for almost a year, Twitch is already planning how to make the most of its arrival. In particular, he noted that initial attention will focus on the single-player campaign, suggesting that the online version of the game will not arrive at the same time as the single-player experience (an educated guess based on experience with past Rockstar games, which have behaved in this way).
Regarding the future of the game, Minton pointed out that online play will be “an even more important segment” in the life of GTA 6 on Twitch. In his words: “Then there will probably be a cycle around the online multiplayer at some point later, which will be an even more important segment in the life cycle of this game on Twitch because that’s where the magic begins to happen.”

Roleplaying as a fundamental part of the experience from the outset
As for expectations for the online component, Minton expressed his hope that roleplaying would be present from the outset, either through official support or mods, a feature that has proven hugely popular in GTA 5 and would enhance the experience in the next installment. We don’t know Rockstar’s plans in this regard, but it is highly unlikely that they will ignore the importance of this phenomenon given its crucial role in the long life of GTA V and the huge profits it has brought in. It is also known that Rockstar has hired important figures from this scene, so it is understood that the integration of this mode will be much deeper from the very beginning.
In addition, the executive recalled that the game will initially be released only on consoles, so Twitch is also considering the subsequent PC phase, which will also contribute to extending the launch period (as well as being the natural gateway for eye-catching mods that form an important part of the spectacle surrounding the game).
The impact of GTA 6 goes beyond gamers and developers; the entire industry is preparing for a “wave” that, according to Minton, will be: “Likely be the biggest game of our lives.” A sentiment shared by others in the video game industry, especially in a landscape lacking AAA titles that truly make a difference in stores.
