Tottenham Hotspur made enquiries over signing an Aston Villa midfielder this summer, but the Lilywhites’ pursuit of the player is now over for the time being.
It has been widely reported that Tottenham are looking to add a defensive midfielder to their squad this summer.
Over the last week, a number of outlets have reported that Spurs have pressed forward with talks for Joao Palhinha, whose future at Bayern Munich is reportedly in doubt.
Over recent days, we have also heard Tottenham admire Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher, who has fallen down Diego Simeone’s pecking order at the Metropolitano Stadium.
Tottenham had an interest in Boubacar Kamara
Graeme Bailey has now revealed that Boubacar Kamara was of interest to both Tottenham and their North London rivals, Arsenal, this summer.
He revealed that Spurs are big admirers of the French international and even enquired about his availability, but Villa made it clear that he is not for sale.
Bailey told TBR Football: “On Boubacar Kamara – I’m told he was firmly on Arsenal’s long list of midfield targets this summer. Tottenham also really liked him and made an enquiry, but it quickly became clear he wouldn’t be leaving Aston Villa.
“One interesting note: PSG were said to be very impressed with Kamara during their Champions League meetings with Villa, and they’re now expected to keep tabs on him going forward.”
Kamara signed a new five-year contract at Villa Park last week, which has seemingly ruled out a summer departure.
Tottenham are also fans of Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey
Kamara is not the only Villa star on Spurs’ radar, with several reports claiming earlier this summer that Tottenham are keeping an eye on Jacob Ramsey’s situation.
It has been claimed that Thomas Frank is a fan of Ramsey, and that the North London club had scouted the 24-year-old extensively last season.
According to a report in Football Insider earlier this month, Spurs are facing competition from Newcastle and Nottingham Forest for Ramsey.
