Reno’s 1st Dave & Buster’s honors free games for a year as hundreds line up

Reno’s first Dave & Buster’s honors a mistaken offer for free games for a year for early customers instead of just a day.

Hundreds of customers lined up on Monday morning to check out opening day for Reno’s first Dave & Buster’s, which rewarded a select number of early birds with free games for a year.

About 400 people showed up before the 10 a.m. opening of the new arcade bar, according to Drew Maheras, general manager.

“(The line) wrapped all the way around the building and went further down,” Maheras said.

Maheras confirmed that Dave & Buster’s decided to honor an offer made by mistake to reward the first 100 people in line with free video games for a year. The offer, sent to media by a company representative last week, was supposed to only let the first 100 customers play games for free on opening day.

“There was a little bit of a mistake and there was some miscommunication so we actually gave the first 100 people in line unlimited video gameplay for an entire year,” Maheras said.

“They couldn’t believe it.”

As the newest store in the Dave & Buster’s franchise, the Reno location boasts several new features that are not available at all stores, Maheras said.

Although the location was too small to accommodate a human crane machine, it does include other new amenities.

“We have our upgraded social base — that’s the interactive darts and shuffleboard,” Maheras said. “That’s something that not every location has.”

Reno Dave & Buster’s also has large TV displays called the Ultimate Wow Wall broadcasting sports. For game lovers, the Reno location has games that are first available at Dave & Buster’s such as Top Gun Maverick and UFC Challenge.

Food offerings include a selection of familiar Dave & Buster’s fare — nachos and sliders; ribs, steaks and pasta; and beer, wine and spirits.

Customer traffic at the store has been good so far after the initial opening rush, according to Maheras.

“We’ve had a steady pace of people coming in,” Maheras said. “It’s been actually really nice because it’s not overwhelming, but we’re still getting more people than we expected on the Monday since we opened.”
