It’s hard to be a lover of video games and not know about the Orcs Must Die series. I’m certainly familiar with the franchise, but I’m almost embarrassed to say that I’ve never played any of the games. With today’s release of Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap on the PlayStation 5, it may be time to change that.
Originally released back in January for PC and Xbox Series X|S, the cooperative horde mode orc-slaying game has made it over to the blue team alongside the new “State of Slay” update for all platforms. The new update adds a new map, two new death traps, and two new hero model updates for all players, though PlayStation players will never know what we were missing.
Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap lets you play solo or with up to four homies to set death traps and slay wave after wave of orcs. The challenge scales depending on the number of players, in addition to environmental factors such as weather and time of day. You’ll choose from one of several character classes, each with its own weapons, abilities, traps, and personality to find one that fits your preferred playstyle. With a heavy emphasis on physics and body ragdoll effects, Deathtrap looks like a hoot. As I’m typing, I’m wondering if this should be a Gaming Nexus Plays streaming game for our crew here at the website.
