The Ayaneo Next 2 is confirmed to launch with AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395 Strix Halo CPU. At the time of writing, it does not have a release date and it is expected to surface by the end of this year.
AMD’s best laptop chips so far, AMD Ryzen AI Max series (Strix Halo), have powered numerous mini-PCs and shockingly few laptops in the past few months. Now, they’ve made their way to handhelds, with GPD being the first in the market with its Win 5. Now, Ayaneo has entered the frey with its offering: Next 2.
It won’t launch anytime soon, but Ayaneo has shown it off via a live stream. A Ryzen AI Max+ 395Â chip will power the Ayaneo Next 2, and judging by the eight LPDDR5X memory modules, it might launch with 64 GB or even 128 GB of memory. The company has shown off two beefy fans mounted on equally hefty heatsinks, both of which will have to work overtime to keep the toasty Strix Halo chip cool.
Other specs, such as storage and screen size, have not been revealed, but the board shot shows the presence of a full-sized SD card reader. It also reveals two USB-A ports, two RJ-45 Ethernet jacks, an HDMI port, and a DP 1.4 port. Of course, this is likely a prototype, and the finished product will be more streamlined.
Unfortunately, the Ayaneo Next 2 does not have a release date, and looking at the state it is in, the handheld might not see the light of day until much later in the year. Additionally, it won’t come in cheap and probably cost as much as a full-fledged gaming laptop. Then again, it isn’t exactly a mainstream device because Strix Halo is borderline overkill for regular handheld use cases.
