One Piece has a massive cast of characters. While Luffy’s Straw Hat crew is made up of an easy-to-manage ten people, each One Piece saga introduces a load of new friends and foes for Luffy and his pals to deal with. This trend continues into the franchise’s video games, as each one introduces many original characters to the franchise’s lore.
However, these characters are rarely designed by Eiichiro Oda. Because of this, many One Piece games feature bizarre characters that stand out, even in the wacky world of One Piece. This ranges from characters whose designs don’t align with the One Piece art style to wacky people and animals that take the show’s lore in new and strange directions. Because of this, One Piece fans who pick up one of the series’ tie-in video games never know what they’ll encounter.
10 Pirate Penguin Is a Cute Animal Pirate
From: Grand Line Dream Adventure Log

Whenever a One Piece videogame opts to tell an original story, fans know they’re in for an interesting time. 2002’s Grand Line Dream Adventure Log is a fantastic example of this, as, despite ostensibly retelling the story from the Loguetown Arc to the end of the Drum Island Arc, it expands them both and concludes with an original arc, meaning it introduces many new characters. If the player has Chopper in their party and heads to Croissant Island, they’ll find a penguin dressed in pirate clothes.

The Davy Back Fights: a forgotten One Piece plot point that’s about to make a major comeback
This penguin will inform the gang that it tried to follow its dream of becoming a pirate, only to end up stranded on Croissant Island. Naturally, Luffy understands this dream and allows the Penguin Pirate to join his crew. While not the strongest character in the game, the mere concept of a Pirate Penguin is enough to make many fans wish this character made the jump to the manga.
9 Kaabo’s Fighting Style Is Unique
From Legend of the Rainbow Island

The world of One Piece is full of unique and creative fighting styles. However, even in this crowded field, some pirates’ fighting styles stand out for being particularly odd. One memorable example of this is Kaabo and his distinctly comedic fighting style.
Introduced in the Wonderswan Color game Legend of the Rainbow Island, Kaabo is a member of the Drayke Pirates. Kabbo’s design has a clear tennis theme, as not only does he always carry a tennis racket around, but he also wears a style of shirt that evokes those worn in professional play. However, this tennis theme isn’t just a visual motif, as Kabbo’s entire fighting style is tennis-themed, with him using his racket to launch balls at his foes. Because of this, he is one of the weirdest warriors Luffy has ever faced.
8 Kagero Feels Out of Place
From: One Piece: World Seeker
One of the most fascinating elements of One Piece is that, despite the world being full of weird and wonderful things, Eiichiro Oda has managed to keep the world visually and thematically cohesive. However, this doesn’t always carry through to video game original characters, which can lead to some weird visuals. Kagero is a memorable example of this, as while the idea of a robotic warrior isn’t too unusual, Kagero’s early sci-fi design makes it stand out when put alongside One Piece’s other characters.

One Piece’s Civilians Are Trapped in a Dying World Where Little Hope Remains
The One Piece world isn’t all rainbows and sunshine. From a civilian’s point of view, the world is terrifying and headed towards an end soon.
Kagero makes its debut in the Void Mirror Prototype DLC for 2019’s One Piece: World Seeker. This robot was designed and built by Isaac, who hoped to use it to enhance his robot suit. What makes Kagero so fascinating is that it copies any move it sees, something that allows it to deploy Zoro’s sword techniques, meaning that, despite its strangeness, Kagero is a dangerous warrior.
7 Zabal Looks like One Piece Wario
From: One Piece: Great Hidden Treasure of the Nanatsu Islands

Released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, One Piece: Great Hidden Treasure of the Nanatsu Islands is an RPG that follows Luffy and his friends as they battle the Simon Pirates. This group is led by Simon, a pirate who was in the running to become one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea (though he got rejected). However, this rejection didn’t stop Simon, and he has since built up a powerful crew, most of whom have bounties worth 30,000,000.
One such crew member is Zabal, the doctor for the Simon Pirates and one of their higher-ranking officers. However, what makes Zabal stand out is his design, as he resembles a cross between Zorro (due to his mask) and a lankier Wario (due to his mustache). He tops this look off with a red one-piece bodysuit, red jacket, random leather straps, and a golden shoulder pad, meaning that it’s hard to forget Zabal once you’ve seen him.
6 Patrick Redfield Resembles a Castlevania Character
From: One Piece: Unlimited World Red
First released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, One Piece: Unlimited World Red is an action-adventure game that follows the Straw Hats as they battle with Patrick Redfield, a pirate known as “Red Count” Redfield. However, this isn’t an easy fight as Redfield is terrifyingly powerful, wielding both Observation Haki and Batto Batto no Mi, Model: Vampire, a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit. In fact, Sengoku outright says that Redfield rivaled Pirate King Gold Roger and Emperor Edward Newgate during his prime years.
As the “Red Count” nickname and his choice of Devil Fruit suggest, Redfield draws heavy inspiration from vampire tropes. This carries through to his design, as he resembles an older man and dresses in Victorian-esque clothes. However, what makes Redfield stand out the most is his complexity, as, despite being a video game-exclusive character, his storyline is surprisingly moving.
5 Pato Is Cute and Complex
From: One Piece: Unlimited World Red

Patrick Redfield isn’t the only interesting character in One Piece: Unlimited World Red. Pato, Redfield’s raccoon dog sidekick, is also a deeply memorable character. The first thing players will notice is that, similar to Chopper, Pato opts to wear clothes while in his animal form, with him spending the vast majority of the game in a pink poncho. However, it should be noted that, despite spending nearly all his time looking like a raccoon dog, this isn’t Pato’s original form.
In reality, Pato is a pen that ate the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Bake-danuki Devil Fruit, a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that gives the consumer the ability to transform into a tanuki. What makes Pato stand out is that, unlike Redfield, he is very friendly (if a little forgetful) and willingly helps the Straw Hats on their adventure. Because of this, it is hard not to fall in love with him, despite his limited screentime.
4 Zau Ra Zau Is Weird and Wacky
From: One Piece: Great Hidden Treasure of the Nanatsu Islands

Like most of the antagonists in One Piece: Great Hidden Treasure of the Nanatsu Islands, Zau Ra Zau is a member of the Simon Pirates. Created by the Simon Pirates’ pirate officer, archaeologist, and scientist, Niphtal, Zau Ra Zau is a yellow and red robot. What makes Zau Ra Zau stand out is its wacky design, as, despite being vaguely humanoid, it has an elongated body, a round chest, and an oddly square head.
As it lacks Devil Fruit powers, Zau Ra Zau fights using the spear and sword attached to each of its arms, as well as the flamethrower mounted in its chest. It backs this up with immense durability, which allows it to continue fighting even when it’s shot at or hit with heavy attacks. Alas, this isn’t enough to take down the Straw Hats, as the gang eventually defeats the combat robot.
3 Skullface Has An Epic Design
From: Set Sail Pirate Crew!

Released on the original PlayStation in 2001, Set Sail Pirate Crew! is an action RPG. Despite being mostly forgotten today, Set Sail Pirate Crew holds a special place in One Piece game history, as it’s the first One Piece game to include an original story. The game’s story starts with the Going Merry getting enveloped in a mysterious fog.

One Piece: Every Island Destroyed By the World Government
Through various means, the World Government has wiped out several islands or at massively damaged them.
When the mist clears, Usopp realizes that the other Straw Hats have vanished, forcing him to team up with a ragtag band of treasure hunters to get them back. However, this will cause him to encounter several dangerous foes, including Skullface, a pirate who wears traditional pirate attire but obscures his face with a skull-like mask. What makes Skullface especially cool is the fact that, despite seemingly lacking any Devil Fruit powers, he’s still immensely strong, being able to take down the Straw Hats with only a sharpened hook.
2 Raccoon Is a Cute Addition to the Cast
From: Chopper’s Big Adventure

Released on the Wonderswan Color in 2003, Chopper’s Big Adventure is a role-playing game that follows Chopper as he tries to save the rest of the Straw Hats, all of whom have been turned into animals. However, this quest isn’t as easy as it first seems, as while saving his friends, Chopper will have to navigate several dangerous dungeons. During this quest, Chopper will get help from several totally new characters, including Raccoon.
What makes Raccoon stand out is his design. Raccoon resembles a furry young boy, complete with ears and a raccoon-like tail. However, despite this animalistic design, Raccoon stands on two feet and wears a green hat, brown shorts, a green long-sleeved T-shirt, and a yellow hoodie, making him look like the epitome of an early-2000s skater dude.
1 Sogekiller Looks like a Crocodile Dundee Parody
From: One Piece Odyssey

Released on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch in 2023, One Piece Odyssey is an RPG that sees the Straw Hats get stranded on a mysterious island and are forced to discover a way to escape. During this quest, they end up crossing paths with the Bull’s Eye Hit Pirates and their leader, Sogekiller. An expert sniper with a 1,000,000 bounty, Sogekiller is famous for his ability to hit anything.
What makes Sogekiller stand out is his design. Sogekiller is a tall blonde man with a bushy mustache who always wears green pants, sandals, a red jacket (with no shirt underneath), sunglasses, and a cowboy hat. Because of this, Sogekiller could have been ripped from Team Fortress 2 or a parody of Crocodile Dundee.
