Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Release Date Leaked by Xbox

The release date for the upcoming Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection has seemingly been leaked by the Xbox app. While we already knew that the compilation was planned to come out some time this year, the Xbox app was telling users that they will be able to access the game in late September. Specifically, September 29 or 30, depending on where you live in the world. Time zones would affect that date for people.

Of course, as of this writing, we have no idea if this timeline is exactly accurate, but we find it hard to believe that September 30, which is a Tuesday, would be a placeholder date. There is a chance that the game is set to have a new release date trailer revealed at an upcoming Nintendo Direct that is rumored for this week or maybe even at Evo 2025, which runs from August 1-3.

What is the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection?

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection includes all of the early day entries from the Mortal Kombat series. Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat III, and Mortal Kombat 4 are all included in one package that also allows for online play in these arcade and home console classics, and will have the Digital Eclipse documentary treatment that other classics have gotten recently. If you are particularly interested in the early history of the making of these games, they will be covered in interviews here. The package also lets you unlock all characters at the press of a button and features a complete recollection of the story and characters in those games.

In the early days, Mortal Kombat was most noticeable for the gore it featured and the way it portrayed its characters. Sure, you look at the digitized corpses and don’t think much of them, but for the 90s, these graphics started a lot of conversation, especially leading to the formation of the ESRB, which started rating games. The characters in these games were actors who were photographed wearing costumes and placed in various positions. All of that info will likely be included in the documentary.

While Mortal Kombat 1 recently was a little less popular compared to other recent releases, people still love this franchise. The sequel to the 2021 movie just recently got a new trailer, and we have the Legacy Kollection that is celebrating its past. Mortal Kombat is not going anywhere.
