Journalist Greame Bailey has now shed light on what the feeling at Tottenham Hotspur is after the club received a shock snub from Morgan Gibbs-White.
Gibbs-White signed a new contract at the City Ground on Saturday, and the news came as a shock to Tottenham and many across the footballing media landscape.
This was because the expectation at Spurs was that they would get Gibbs-White, while it was also widely reported that the Forest midfielder was determined to complete a move to N17.
However, he had a change of heart, and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly convinced Gibbs-White about the club’s ambition after face-to-face talks with the 25-year-old.
Tottenham are ready to move on from Morgan Gibbs-White
The Forest owner has undoubtedly had the last laugh, and Marinakis has taken a potshot at Tottenham for the way they conducted themselves.
Greame Bailey has now explained that the Greek billionaire was not at all pleased with Spurs’ tactics and remained resolute on his stance right from the off.
The journalist suggested that Tottenham do not plan to dwell on this snub and are ready to move on very quickly.
Bailey told TBR Football: “I am told that whilst Evangelos Marinakis was angry with Tottenham Hotspur, he was quick to sit down with Morgan Gibbs-White.
“He was very clear about what he wanted. Over the past two weeks, he has been offering him a deal that has now convinced him to stay.
“Tottenham were confident, and they hoped that Gibbs-White would still come. It is a blow to Spurs’ plans, but they will move on very quickly.”
Who will Spurs turn to next in the summer transfer window?
Spurs certainly cannot afford to feel sorry for themselves as they have plenty of work to do this summer, with the Tottenham squad requiring multiple reinforcements.
Some outlets have suggested over the last few days that Tottenham may now turn to Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott, who is expected to leave Anfield this summer.
Other publications have claimed that Spurs have already begun efforts to sign a number six, which is thought to be one of Thomas Frank’s priorities this summer.
