The luxury £10m Kent care home which will ‘rival the finest of boutique hotels’

Kent’s most luxurious new care home, boasting style and service claimed “to rival the finest of boutique hotels” is set to open in November.

The latest images of the £10 million facility reveal indulgently furnished rooms, lounges and dining areas, with the promise of outdoor terraces overlooking landscaped gardens.

Called Herne Bay Manor, it is being built on the site of a former Christian conference centre and holiday camp in Canterbury Road, Herne Bay.

The facility, created by Dunham Care, has been remodelled from the original and extended main house and will have 67 rooms and services, including a fine dining restaurant and hair salon and nailbar.

It will offer residential, respite, and dementia care but charges for the various levels of accommodation and service have yet to be finalised, says the company.

The care home is expected to create up to 100 new jobs from a variety of sectors.

The Christian centre closed in 2008 and the four-acre site was subject to illegal raves and vandalism until being granted permission for a £21 million retirement village in 2022.

It includes a separate scheme for 49 retirement bungalows, which are being built for Villa Concierge and are also nearing completion.

They have gone on sale through Miles & Barr, priced from £375,000 for a one-bed and £475,000 for a two-bed, with service charges of about £350 a month.

Dunham Care chief executive, Chris McGoff, says Herne Bay Manor is a bold new benchmark in premium elderly care, “redefining what later life can look like”.

“Every detail has been meticulously considered and crafted to create a truly luxurious sanctuary where every need is anticipated,” he said.

“Our vision has always been to create not just a care home, but a lifestyle defined by quality, dignity and exceptional standards of care.”

First known as Parsonage House, the site was built in 1896. It was later home to an engineering college before being occupied by a succession of military units during the Second World War.

Shortly after changing hands in 1948, the plot was turned into a religious conference and holiday centre, known as Herne Bay Court Christian Centre, which closed in 2008.
