After a lengthy wait, Retroware has finally nailed down a December 4 release date for Toxic Crusaders. The long-awaited announcement was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, coinciding with a new trailer for the old-school beat-’em-up.
The Toxic Crusaders are back to defend Tromaville against the evil Dr. Killemoff and his army of Radiation Rangers. With local co-op, you can grab up to four friends and take on the forces of Smogula across a variety of vibrant pixel-art levels, including environments inspired from Troma films, such as Class of Nuke ‘Em High and Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead.
You can play as all the members of the original Toxic Crusaders gang, including Toxie, Nozone, Junkyard, Major Disaster, and Headbanger, along with Toxie’s girlfriend, Yvonne, and even Toxie’s mom, Mrs. Junko. Featuring the Tag Out System, players are able to seamlessly swap between two Crusaders to pile on the punishment. You’ll face off against all-new bosses, and not just the expected Dr. Killemoff and other characters from the original cartoon. Expect appearances from those hailing from other Troma films.
Toxic Crusaders will arrive on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch. And don’t forget to check out the demo on Steam.
