Mikel Arteta teased that there could be more to come from Arsenal in this summer’s transfer window after the Gunners’ finally sealed Viktor Gyokeres’ £63.5million signing.

Arsenal put an end to their two-month saga with Sporting CP on Saturday, announcing the Sweden international’s arrival, before unveiling him before their pre-season game against Newcastle less than 24 hours later.

Also joining Arteta’s ranks for the 2025-26 season are Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristian Mosquera, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Christian Norgaard.

Arteta had bemoaned the club’s inability to supply him with more firepower in the January transfer window, but the financial backing has been strong for him in the first summer under new sporting director Andrea Berta, who replaced Edu.

Despite already securing six new players and their summer spending almost eclipsing £200m, Arteta hinted that the north London club may not stop at Gyokeres.

When asked if their business is done, he said: ‘Let’s see. The market is still going on and we’ll have to balance out the squad as well. I think we’ll be open to see what happens.’

Arsenal finally sealed Viktor Gyokeres’ £63.5million signing from Sporting CP on Saturday

Reports earlier this week stated that Arsenal are preparing a £60m approach for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

The midfielder is understood to favour a move to the Emirates, with many close to the situation confident a transfer will go through in the coming weeks.

Furthermore, while Eze’s signing does not hinge on this, Arsenal would prefer to sell one of their assets before splurging on new players.

So far, the club have only recouped £7m from departures, with Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos departing for around £4.5m and £2.5m respectively. The futures of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have also come under heavy speculation.

Whether or not Arsenal add even more firepower to their squad, Arteta is seemingly content with the club’s business.

He added, when asked about Gyokeres’ arrival: ‘Yeah, well we can’t talk about how the processes work but it’s a decision that we take between all of us, especially with ownership, then the board, then Andrea [Berta] and the scouting department, and also myself and we were very clear on the talent that we identified in the window.

‘But actually to deliver it is something very, very different and I think the club has done incredibly well, Andrea and his team, they’ve been absolutely fantastic.

‘So I mean so early in the window, we already have the reinforcements that we wanted.’
