If you’re a fan of horror games and movies (like me), we have some good news: one of the most iconic horror franchises of the ’80s is poised to make a comeback, not just in films, but also in video games.
We’re referring to the Friday the 13th horror franchise, which stars one of the most recognizable villains in movie history, Jason Voorhees.
New Friday the 13th Game Confirmed To Be In Development

The confirmation comes from Horror Inc. Vice President Robbie Barsamian in a chat with Bloody-Digusting at San Diego Comic-Con. While there are no specifics revealed, Barsamian confirm the development of both a game and film based on the Friday the 13th franchise are in the works.
“I can tell you that a new sequel movie and new sequel game are at the top of our list. It’s where most of our energy’s going right now. And I can tell you finally we’re in a position to deliver on that,” Barsamian said.
The exec added, “While we’re not officially announcing with our partners today, both are coming. They’re both in the works and they’re both coming.”
This is very good news for fans of the franchise, and horror games in general, though we’re hoping Barsamian is referring to a “core” gaming experience rather than one for mobiles.

While the Jason Vorhees character appeared in Mortal Kombat X, the last core game based on the franchise was Friday the 13th: THe Game, which was released in 2017. The survival horror multiplayer game was playable on consoles and PC, though due to dwindling player numbers, its servers were shutdown in November 2020.
There was a game based on the franchise released in 2018, but this was a puzzle game, believe it or not, that was available on mobile devices and PC.
With how well horror games have been received as of late, this might be the perfect time for a Friday the 13th single-player game. We’ve seen games similar to it like Until Dawn achieve success, and I don’t see why a franchise as prominent as Friday the 13th can’t replicate it.
