Two charged after ‘serious nightclub assault involving weapon’

Two suspects have been charged in connection with an alleged assault involving a weapon in a nightclub’s smoking area.

The incident happened at Casino Rooms in Blue Boar Lane, Rochester, between 2.30am and 2.50am on Sunday (July 20).

The victim, a man in his 30s, was in a smoking area when he was allegedly assaulted with a weapon.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment to cuts and has since been discharged.

Later the same morning, a man was arrested, and a teenage boy was detained on Wednesday (July 23).

Lenny Smith, 22, of Winchelsea Road, Chatham, and a 17-year-old boy from Medway have since been charged with unlawful wounding.

The teenager was also charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm and possessing a knife in a public place.

Both suspects were remanded to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today (July 25).

Police are continuing to urge any witnesses who have not yet spoken to the police to contact the appeal line.

On Monday (July 21), a 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with the investigation, however he was later released without charge.
