Amazon MGM Studios is officially developing a TV adaptation of MachineGames’ acclaimed first-person shooter video game series Wolfenstein. The game takes place during the World War II in an alternate timeline, following an American soldier named William “B.J.” Blazkowicz who has been tasked for missions against the Nazis.
The video game franchise was first launched in 1981 with the action adventure game Castle Wolfenstein. After it was received positively by critics and fans, it went on to spawn thirteen sequels, including Wolfenstein 3D which started the franchise’s shift to first-person shooting games. The latest version of the game was released in 2019 in the formed of Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, which gives fans a virtual reality experience.
What do we know about the Wolfenstein TV show?
The Wolfenstein show will be created, written, and executive produced Patrick Somerville, who has also been set as the showrunner. Further details about its plot and characters are still under wraps, but the studio has released a short logline that reads, “the story of killing Nazis is evergreen.”
It will be executive produced by Jonah Nolan, Lisa Joy, and Athena Wickham for Kilter Films. James Altman of Keyframe Films and Jerk Gustafsson from the game developer MachineGames. Should the adaptation score an official series order, this marks the latest video game adaptation of Kilter Films and Amazon MGM Studios, after the critical success of Fallout. Besides Wolfenstein, the studio currently has multiple upcoming shows based on popular video games, including the Mass Effect and God of War adaptations.
