New Trailer for Five Night’s at Freddy’s 2 Brings Us More Bite

This morning, the official Blumhouse social media pages released a full trailer for the film Five Night’s at Freddy’s 2, a sequel to the 2023 adaptation of the popular game franchise Five Night’s at Freddy’s. This trailer was expected to be on the horizon with news earlier this month of the film having a presentation at San Diego Comic Con, which is currently ongoing this week. The trailer runs two minutes and twenty seconds and manages to pack in enough excitement to keep me interested.

The trailer brings us back to Freddy Fazbears Pizza… sort of, instead of showing us the restaraunt where the events of the last movie occured, we’re introduced to an older “original” restaraunt with abandoned animatronics being investigated by an amateur group of paranormal investigators, who more than likely will get more than they bargained for when faced with the haunted animatronics. The film is an adaptation of the second game in the franchise, and thus introduces new characters such as updated and older versions of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy (now appearing as the horrific pile of metal known as The Mangle) as well as the mysteriously haunting Marionette, a freaky puppet possessed by one of the many children who met their end at Freddy’s and a prominent figure in the game franchise.

The film looks to be diving further in the more haunting and paranormal elements of it’s video game counterparts, after the 2023 film was criticized by a sizeable amount of its audience for lacking the strong sense horror the original games did. While I enjoyed the original well enough, a more creepy and sinister tone is always welcomed, especially given the game franchises ghoulish plotline. Josh Hutchenson (The Hunger Games, Zathura), Elizabeth Lail (Countdown, You), Piper Rubio (Five Night’s at Freddy’s) and Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby Doo) are all back playing their roles from the first film. The film also introduces Teo Briones (Chucky, Final Destination: Bloodlines), McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Annabelle Comes Home) and Skeet Ulrich (Scream, The Craft) into the mayhem.

While there’s still a lot of ambiguity in the films plotline, the trailer points to it being far more intense and chaotic than the original, with various scenes showing the new and abandoned animatronics causing mayhem both inside and outside the walls of the haunted restaurant. As a diehard fan of the game franchise (especially the second one) I can’t but be blown away at the near one to one adaptations of the animatronics designs, including the horrifying withered versions of the original animatronics. The upcoming adaptation also appears to be taking a lot of the gameplay elements from the video game and integrating it into the film as well, something I ‘m eager to see brought to life.

Five Night’s at Freddy’s 2 will be released only in theaters on December 5th, 2025.
