MSI’s latest MPG curved ultrawide gaming monitor boasts a 34-inch VA panel with a resolution of 3440 x 1440, a speedy refresh rate of 240 Hz, and a name that doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. Priced relatively affordably, the monitor appears to be a decent purchase for folks who don’t mind VA panels.
MSI has unveiled a brand-new gaming monitor, dubbed the MPG 346CQRF X24. Although the naming scheme continues being just as confusing as monitor names have always been, the 34-inch ultrawide curved gaming monitor does have a lot going for it in terms of specifications.
As indicated by the features on offer, the MSI MPG X24 ultrawide monitor is targeted primarily at high-refresh rate enthusiasts, such as e-sports fanatics. The 34-inch VA panel boasts an impressive refresh rate of 240 Hz, and a curvature of 1500R. Thanks to an industry standard resolution of 3440 x 1440, the MPG monitor sports a pixel density of 109 PPI, which should be plenty for gaming.
MSI claims the monitor’s ultrawide VA panel can reach a peak brightness of 400 nits, and will most likely boast great contrast ratios. It’s true that many VA panels suffer from poor viewing angles and response times, although MSI manages to claim a GtG response time of 0.5 ms and 178° viewing angles. The gaming monitor covers 85% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, which is acceptable since the product is not particularly aimed at professional content creation.
In terms of ergonomics, the MSI MPG 346CQRF X24 gaming monitor boasts a built-in stand that allows for up to 110 mm of height adjustment, 30° swivel, and -5° to 15° of tilt. Connectivity is decent, including dual HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4a, dual USB 2.0 Type-A downstream, USB 2.0 Type-B upstream, USB 3.2 Type-C upstream with 98-watt power delivery support, and a headphone jack. A KVM switch is also on offer, which is great for folks with multiple PCs. The ultrawide monitor is priced at ¥87,800 in Japan, which is roughly equivalent to $600.
Cheaper alternative: Alienware AW3425DWM (currently $399 on Amazon)
