The first trailer for Battlefield 6 is everything fans wanted: realistic combat and destruction

For years, Battlefield was a cash cow for Electronic Arts. It was the flagship of action games in a territory that Call of Duty had dominated with an iron fist for decades. DICE gradually faded away, and the glory days of Bad Company and company fell into oblivion. Now, the Swedes want to make Battlefield 2042 just a bad dream: the first trailer for the new installment, Battlefield 6, looks promising. There is still no release date or confirmed platforms. We will learn more about the multiplayer mode on July 31.

This is the new Battlefield: a return to its roots

What we see in the trailer is largely supported by the multitude of leaked gameplay footage from the Alpha version seen in recent months. We find a game that seeks to respect the essence of the series, the DNA of Battlefield in its strictest sense, while offering a modern take on the first-person shooter.

“Witness the vicious path of destruction carved by Pax Armata, the world’s leading private military company. PAX pursues the destruction of NATO and its allies, stopping at nothing to uphold their motto: ‘Our Protection, Your Peace.’” explains the publisher in its official description. “Lock & load for the ultimate all-out warfare experience. Fight in high-intensity infantry combat. Rip through the skies in aerial dogfights. Demolish your environment for a strategic advantage. In a war of tanks, fighter jets, and massive combat arsenals, your squad is the deadliest weapon. This is Battlefield 6..”

We know that destruction is once again a key element of gameplay. We’ve seen buildings blown to smithereens, with a level of detail that surpasses that seen in Battlefield 2042, which was a technical and gameplay setback in every sense. A disaster that gradually improved, but is still a long way from what the series deserved.

That’s the challenge facing DICE and the rest of EA’s internal teams. The classes are back, the realistic military aspect is back, the destruction is back… All the ingredients are in place.
