Detroit ranks 13 out of 15 U.S. cities for an open-world gaming setting
Listen up video gamers! Detroit isn’t the best place you would see an open world gaming experience come to life.
In a new study from BetMGM Casino, Detroit has landed near the bottom of a recent national ranking that analyzed U.S. cities for their suitability as setting for open-world video games. Out of 15 major cities evaluated, Detroit placed 13th, only surpassing Cleveland and Kansas City in the study.
Open-world games allow players to explore real-world-inspired cities, often in ways that people couldn’t in their day-to-day lives.
Researchers scored cities based on how well their real-world layout, infrastructure, and cultural assets would translate into a playable, immersive gaming environment.
The study shows Detroit’s game power score was 26.65% out of 100. The city scored less than average across all categories, but particularly low across three of the five categories—Gameplay & Experience, Aesthetics & Architecture, and Culture & Society.
The lower score was based off of fewer police and city services within 5 miles of the city center, fewer vehicles on the road, poor urban connectivity in comparison to others, city aesthetics, lower cultural diversity, and a smaller population.
However, Detroit scored its best in the Urban Design & Infrastructure category, scoring 6.8/14 points, for its residential density and port access.
The study revealed that, of the 15 major U.S. cities that haven’t featured in an open-world video game, Chicago would make a great choice for players to explore and have fun in virtually.
