Even after Phil Spencer hinted that Xbox games would arrive on the Switch 2, Nintendo fans continue to wait. The Game Business predicts that official announcements could come within a matter of weeks. With improved Switch 2 specs, there are fewer technical challenges when porting third-party titles.
At the expense of the Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft’s cross-platform plans are in full swing. Previously exclusive Xbox games, like Forza Horizon 5, are finding new audiences. Still, the company has a minimal presence on Nintendo’s new console. Christopher Dring of The Game Business reveals that Microsoft could finally announce Switch 2 games “in the coming weeks”. Gamers can also expect more anticipated Xbox titles to land on the PS5.
Phil Spencer has already confirmed Microsoft’s interest in Nintendo’s handheld. In April 2025, the CEO again reiterated that Xbox games on Nintendo’s consoles were “an important part of our future”. Xbox titles like Grounded came to the original Switch, with Grounded 2 likely to eventually follow. Nevertheless, there have been no recent announcements from either company related to Switch 2 games.
Some fans anticipated Switch 2 ports to surface at the Summer Game Fest and Xbox Games Showcase. As it turned out, third-party titles for the console were largely absent from the events. Nintendo has preferred to unveil game announcements at its own broadcasts. A rumored imminent Nintendo Direct may be where gamers learn about releases from Microsoft and other publishers.
Gamers might speculate that Microsoft is having second thoughts about bringing its games to the Switch 2. The company is banking on handheld gaming PCs, such as the Asus ROG Xbox Ally, to expand its audience. The Switch and its portable competitors have traditionally had different fan bases. However, enhanced Switch 2 specs allow more demanding AAA titles to become playable on the system.
Despite its stake in the handheld market, Christopher Dring doesn’t see Microsoft hesitating to port IPs to the Switch 2. Using Circana sales data, he highlights the success of the recent multi-platform trend. Even Sony PlayStation will introduce PS5 games, like Helldivers 2, to the Xbox Series X|S on August 26th. On a historic sales pace, it’s unlikely any publisher can ignore Nintendo’s console for long.
