The coastguard has launched a strong response this afternoon amid reports of a swimmer in trouble off the Kent coast.
Teams, including a helicopter and search and rescue vehicles, are currently at the scene, on Sandgate beach promenade, opposite the Folkestone rowing club.

According to an eyewitness, the helicopter was seen “flying towards Folkestone” with other emergency service agencies arriving.
An HM Coastguard spokesperson said: “We are responding to a report of concern for a male swimmer off Folkestone, made at about 12.20pm on 24 July.
“An HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter has been sent as well as the RNLI’s all-weather lifeboats from Dover and Dungeness, and Folkestone Coastguard Rescue Team.”
