Since its premiere via Amazon Prime in 2021, Invincible has quickly shot up the charts to become one of the most popular comic book IPs around. Its popularity has led to crossovers with Fortnite, as well as a guest appearance for Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1.
That said, outside of a mobile game and a visual novel, the franchise hasn’t had a signature game, though that will soon change with the release of Invincible VS, a 3v3 fighting game set within the world of the comics, complete with a story mode that has been written by the creative team behind the show.
It may be long overdue, but it appears that more games in the Invincible world could be coming, including that heavily dreamed-of open-world title. Speaking at a self-titled panel at San Diego Comic Con, creator Robert Kirkman discussed all things video games and Invincible.
It Seems Like Invincible Is Just Getting Started When It Comes To Video Games
To start, Kirkman acknowledged that Invincible is largely just getting started with video games, likening its growth to another franchise that he helped create, The Walking Dead.
“As we do more and more games and the show is as popular as it is, I hope we see a dozen Invincible games in the next ten years that do all kinds of different stuff,” Kirkman affirmed.
“I’d love a cooking Invincible game,” he said to laughter from the audience.
Perhaps most noteworthy is the fact that Kirkman is aware of the calls for an open-world game set within the world he helped create. “I have eyes and ears and a phone,” he said, acknowledging the persistent calls from fans. “I’d love that too.” Ultimately, only time will tell whether fans’ wishes are granted, but at least those calls are being heard.
