Hit Chinese game: Indie game Wuchang: Fallen Feathers topped a major global bestseller list on the day of its release Thursday, further raising China’s profile as a developer of hit video games following the blockbuster success of Black Myth: Wukong last year. Within an hour of Wuchang’s launch, more than 110,000 players were playing it concurrently on Steam, the online platform that hosts the main marketplace for video games for PCs. The studio behind Wuchang, Chengdu-based Leenzee Games, spent nearly six years developing the action adventure game. Black Myth showed that Chinese developers had the capacity to produce a AAA title. However, due to the long development cycles and enormous amount of capital needed to make these games, they remain out of reach for most indie studios.
