CDC Gaming Advertising Manager Jim McGlasson has announced his retirement from the end of September, after nine years leading advertising sales for CDC Gaming and 55 years after his first ad sales position.
“I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of CDC Gaming. I have thoroughly enjoyed my association with CDC Gaming Publisher Emeritus Jeffrey Compton and Publisher Cory Roberts, and the entire team at CDC,” McGlasson said, while discussing his retirement.
“However, my wife and I have decided that it’s time for me to stop working and spend more time doing things together, including visiting the grandkids in Portland, and squeezing in some vacation time. Working with CDC has been a wonderful experience and a great way to end my fifty-plus years in publishing.”
Longtime CDC Gaming contributor Mark Gruetze chronicled McGlasson’s career last October detailing his climb from a rookie newspaper photographer to his first sales position. He moved to Vegas in 1987 as General Manager of the Las Vegas Sun and later helped negotiate a Joint Operating Agreement with the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
In 2016 he joined CDC Gaming as its inaugural dedicated Advertising Manager. McGlasson’s route to CDC Gaming was a bit unconventional, founder and Publisher Emeritus Jeffrey Compton recalled. “Like Cory Roberts in 2012, I found Jim McGlasson by posting a Craigslist ad. Based on his experience, especially with the Greenspun organization at the Sun, I contacted him immediately to explain the project. He spent some time looking it over and said, ‘You have a great product, but it may be a year before we really see anything substantive.’ In reality, it took seven months. I knew I had the right person for the job.”
CDC Gaming thanks Jim for his extraordinary contribution to the company over the last nine years and wishes him all the best for a long and happy retirement.
Following the announcement of Jim’s retirement, CDC Gaming will be seeking a driven individual to lead client relationships and sales — details available soon.
