Town centre pub shut after ‘medical incident’

A town centre pub has shut at short notice in response to a “medical incident”.

The Southern Belle in Gillingham High Street has closed for the rest of today (July 23) due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Pictures taken from the scene earlier show police and paramedics present with a blue sheet erected on the corner of the street, close to the entrance to the pub.

Police say they were called around 10.20am in response to a “medical incident”. Firefighters were also at the scene.

A witness said they saw a “critical care ambulance” at the scene and that emergency service workers were there for around half an hour.

The Southern Belle announced on social media it would be closed for the rest of today but will reopen as normal tomorrow on its social media.

It thanked its customers for their understanding.

KentOnline has approached the pub and the ambulance service for further information.
