Tottenham have reportedly set their sights on a shock move for a £76m Real Madrid winger, as Thomas Frank looks to bolster his forward line with another marquee addition this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur are no strangers when it comes to doing business with Spanish giants Real Madrid.
In fact, over the last decade, Tottenham have sold two of their top talents to Los Blancos, making a total of £115.1 million in the space of a year.
On 27 August 2012, Luka Modric joined the Spanish giants for £30 million before going on to become one of the greatest midfielders in the history of the game.
Meanwhile, a year later, Gareth Bale, after several impressive seasons at White Hart Lane, made a record-breaking move to Real Madrid, completing an £85.1 million switch in September.
Tottenham join race for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo
Tottenham’s relationship with Real Madrid is said to still remain intact, according to AS, who now claim that Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes.
The Brazilian international, who has three years left on his current deal, managed just six goals and six assists in 30 La Liga appearances.
However, the outlet claims that Tottenham are still looking to make a statement signing, even after completing a deal for West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus, who is Spurs’ fourth-most expensive signing, having joined for £55 million.
It is understood that while Real Madrid are demanding €90 million (around £76 million) for Rodrygo, Daniel Levy is expected to negotiate a deal at a lower price, using his good relationship with Real Madrid to his advantage.
Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Arsenal also interested in Rodrygo
Tottenham, however, are not the only ones monitoring Rodrygo this summer, as several other sides in Europe are keeping tabs on the winger’s situation.
Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Arsenal are also reported to have shown interest. Arsenal, for one, have had Rodrygo on their radar for some time now, and reports even claimed that after failing to agree on a deal with Real Madrid, the Gunners turned their attention to one of Spurs’ long-time targets, Eberechi Eze.
Mikel Arteta’s men have since completed the signing of Chelsea winger and former Tottenham academy graduate, Noni Madueke, and it remains to be seen if they will still push on for Rodrygo this summer.
It is further explained by the publication that while clubs remain interested in the Brazilian, no team so far has initiated contact with Real Madrid.
However, conversations between Rodrygo’s entourage and interested clubs have been taking place. Madrid are understood to be looking to sell before they go into the market to strengthen their team even further.
