Tottenham have a transfer plan to save money on Joao Palhinha this summer

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has revealed what Tottenham Hotspur are plotting regarding Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha, whose future at the Allianz Arena is thought to be in doubt.

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Spurs are keen on signing a top-class number six this summer, and that is not surprising, considering that Tottenham are now trying to offload Yves Bissouma.

Spurs Web relayed an update from TBR Football a few days ago, which claimed that the Lilywhites had started fresh talks with Bayern Munich over Palhinha.

The former Fulham man struggled to break into Vincent Kompany’s starting eleven last season, and according to some sources, Bayern are ready to sell Palhinha for £26m despite paying £47m for him last summer.

Tottenham do not want to sign Joao Palhinha in a permanent deal

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has now confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur are indeed interested in the Portugal international and that he is on the market.

However, he claims that the North Londoners would prefer to sign the midfielder on loan rather than permanently.

That perhaps has to do with the fact that Palhinha is now 30 years of age, and according to Capology, he is reportedly on wages of £300,000 per week in Bavaria.

However, signing the former Fulham man on loan will be easier said than done for Tottenham, as per another recent update.

Bayern Munich are not willing to loan out Palhinha

Spurs Web recently covered an update from GiveMeSport, which claimed that Bayern are only willing to sell Palhinha permanently, and are not interested in loaning him out.

The same update also asserted that the midfielder is happy to stay at the Allianz Arena and fight for his place in the Bayern side next season.

That suggests that Spurs have their work cut out to convince the Sporting Lisbon academy graduate to make a switch to N17.
