Florian Plettenberg has now weighed in on reports that Tottenham Hotspur are now pushing ahead with a shock move for a Real Madrid star.
Reports in Spain claimed over the last 24 hours that Tottenham had become the newest entrants to the race for Rodrygo’s signature.
It was asserted that Real Madrid are demanding €90m (£76m) for the winger, but Daniel Levy was hopeful of negotiating a lower fee for the Brazil international.
This is not the first time we have heard of Spurs’ interest in the 24-year-old, with Cadena Ser claiming last month that Tottenham are ready to battle Arsenal and Chelsea for Rodrygo.
Florian Plettenberg pours cold water on Tottenham move for Rodrygo
The transfer link has certainly excited Spurs fans, and it will undoubtedly be a massive statement of intent by the North London club to spend a club-record fee on the Real Madrid man, just weeks after signing Mohammed Kudus in a £55m deal.
However, Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now quashed the excitement of Tottenham Hotspur supporters by revealing that there is no truth to the rumours.
According to the journalist, the Los Blancos star is not a target for Thomas Frank’s side this summer.
Plettenberg wrote: ‘Rumours linking Rodrygo with Tottenham Hotspur are wide of the mark. He is not a target for Spurs.’
Thomas Frank’s recent statement makes a move for Rodrygo unlikely
In his press conference last week, Frank hinted that Tottenham may not make any more additions to their attack this summer.
One would not be surprised if Spurs change their stance later in the summer, particularly as Heung-min Son’s future at N17 is still in doubt.
However, given that Frank is also keen on signing a top-class number six, it would not be very surprising if the Lilywhites decided to spend a club-record fee on Rodrygo.
