Tottenham are ‘serious’ about Joao Palhinha and he might be even cheaper than expected

Tottenham’s pursuit of Joao Palhinha is expected to be far from straightforward, with a new report from Germany claiming that clubs from five different countries have submitted proposals for the Bayern Munich star.

Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that over the last couple of days, a number of outlets have reported that Tottenham are locked in talks with Bayern Munich over Palhinha.

Some sources have claimed that Spurs can land Palhinha for around £26m this summer, but that does not mean that a deal is expected to be easy. Others have claimed that Bayern will charge £30m for Palhinha this summer.

Earlier this week, GiveMeSport claimed that Palhinha prefers to stay at Bayern and fight for his place, with Tottenham thus having work to do to land the player.

Tottenham face competition from across Europe for Joao Palhinha

A new report in BILD has indeed confirmed that the Lilywhites are keen on securing the services of the Portugal international.

The outlet says that Thomas Frank’s side are ‘seriously interested’ in bringing the midfielder back to the Premier League, but that does not mean that a deal is likely to go through.

Bild also assert that Palhinha would prefer to remain at the Allianz Arena for the upcoming season, even though he has allegedly received offers from England, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Portugal.

The publication claims that an offer of around €25m (£21.6m) would be enough for Spurs to secure the former Fulham man, which is lower than the figures previously reported.

Spurs do not want a permanent deal for Palhinha

Bild also backs up what has been reported previously by other outlets by claiming that the North London side prefer to sign Palhinha on an initial loan deal.

Tottenham Hotspur signed Mathys Tel from the Bavarian side on loan during the January window before signing him permanently this summer, and it sounds like they may want the Bundesliga giants to offer a similar formula with the 30-year-old.

However, other sources have made it clear that Bayern will only entertain permanent offers for Palhinha this summer.
