Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot is a New Arcade Take on the Remake

Capcom and Bandai Namco have teamed up to make a new on-rails arcade cabinet called Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot. The lightgun shooter features five different chapters where players pick up a pistol and fire away at the many monsters infesting the Raccoon City Police Department. The cabinet is currently only available at Namco Funscape in the UK, as it undergoes early testing. You can see early footage of the game below via IGN.

What is Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot?

Gameplay for Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot seems to be pretty standard among lightgun shooters you find in arcades. You (and a potential co-op partner) point your gun at the screen and shoot at enemies that rush in and attack you. Reloading is a little different, though. Rather than pushing a button on the gun or cocking it back, you aim the gun away from the screen and fire to reload. This way of reloading is faster than the automatic reload you do when you run out of bullets. That seems like an odd decision, but could just be a placeholder for a game that is essentially in beta.

While Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot will have five chapters when it’s ready, the current test version only has two available: a prologue, and a chapter called Hunted, which features Mr. X. Ada is featured on the outside of the cabinet, so it’s likely that a future chapter will feature her in the place of Claire. Maybe the voices sound weird through IGN’s video, but it sounds like completely different voice actors to us, so that might throw some hardcore fans of the game off.

The prologue starts with Leon and Claire entering the RPD and firing away at a constant onslaught of zombie cops and dogs. The story has been slightly adjusted here to account for the style of game. In the normal Resident Evil 2, Leon and Claire meet at a gas station, ride into Raccoon City, and are separated following a car crash. Here, Leon is already sporting his police uniform and looks like the two just met as they run into the RPD.

Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot looks like it could be a pretty fun inclusion at a Dave & Buster’s or other arcade for adults, even though it definitely feels different from a traditional Resident Evil game. We’re not sure how widely available the game cabinet will be when it’s ready to go out, but with how rare arcades are these days, you likely won’t find it unless you live in a larger city.
