Newcastle United are optimistic about beating Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Yoane Wissa despite seeing their opening offer turned down by Brentford.
While a number of reports backed Tottenham to press ahead with a move for Wissa earlier this month, the North London club do not appear to have made a move for the striker so far.
Some sources have said that Wissa is no longer seen as a priority by Spurs after they landed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham.
Additionally, Thomas Frank has also hinted that Tottenham are unlikely to sign another striker this summer.
Newcastle United are optimistic of landing Yoane Wissa despite Tottenham links
Over the last week, plenty of outlets claimed that Newcastle United are now stepping up their interest in Wissa.
On Monday, Spurs Web relayed a report from David Ornstein, who claimed that Newcastle’s £25m for Wissa had been rejected by Brentford.
Now, The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has taken to social media to reveal that there is confidence at St James’ Park that they can secure a deal for the DR Congo international.
Hope asserts that the belief in the North East is that a bid of around £30m will be enough to prise the 28-year-old away from the Gtech Community Stadium.

Tottenham may have just sent a big hint about Richarlison’s future
The fact that Spurs seem to be allowing Newcastle to move unopposed for the Bees star may be a big hint that Richarlison could be set to stay at the club.
Thomas Frank has referred to Richarlison as a “good striker” in his press conference last week, hinting that the Brazilian could stay at the club.
Additionally, various sources have reported that Richarlison has informed Spurs that he would prefer to stay despite attracting plenty of transfer interest.
