Capcom has remade Resident Evil 2 again. Only this time, they’ve enlisted the help of Bandai Namco for a lightgun arcade shooter. Per IGN, Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot is an on-rails shooter that’s currently in location testing at Namco Funscape in London, UK.
As one would expect with this type of arcade title, Dead Shot splits up the story for Resident Evil 2 into five episodes. However, the location testing cabinet only has the first two episodes were unlocked. The first chapter serves as the prologue, introducing players into the game, and sees Leon and Claire fighting past zombie cops and dogs to make their way into the Raccoon City Police Department.
As one would expect, the graphics are very much in line with the 2019 remake, but with the guidance you’d expect from an on-rails shooter like The House of the Dead. And like HOTD, (or with almost any other lightgun shooter), you’ll need to shoot your gun away from the screen in order to reload. Unlike Sega’s classic, you will automatically reload when you run out of bullets, but compared to manual reloading, it’s on the slow side.
Capcom hasn’t officially revealed anything so far about Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot (again, this is location testing), how long the cabinet will remain at Namco Funscape, or if we’ll see cabinets pop up Stateside.
In the meantime, we’re still waiting for next month’s Gamescom, where the latest Resident Evil title, Resident Evil: Requiem, is expected to be playable at the conference.
