Pokémon Champions, the upcoming battle-focused mobile game, got a new trailer showing off some of the features for the updated take on Pokémon Stadium, as well as a quick confirmation that the game is currently planned to release in 2026 at some point. The game was initially revealed earlier this year in February during the Pokémon Day Presents show.
What Kind of Game is Pokémon Champions?
In Pokémon Champions, the whole game is built around having traditional turn-based Pokémon battles. While you can acquire new Pokémon in the game, there is interaction with Pokémon Home, so you can fill out your battle roster with newcomers or Pokémon that you have had by your side in other games along the way.
That’s not all, though, because you will also be able to train your Pokémon within Champions by adjusting their specific stats. Changing the natures and EV of your Pokémon will help them perform better in various ways to take down the competition.
With Pokémon Champions mainly focused on being a mobile game, you can expect there to be some form of microtransactions when it comes to Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android next year. While we don’t know the full extent of that yet, a new currency denoted as “VP” was very prominent in the trailer. While we imagine that the game will allow you to earn some VP by just playing the game, we also imagine there will be a way to purchase it with real money to expedite the process of training your Pokémon.
Pokémon is, of course, the largest media franchise in the game, so it’s not surprising to see the franchise continue to still push into the mobile crowd after the massive success the Pokémon Go still is. That game allows you to focus on catching the creatures, while this one gives you that traditional battle feel. Then you have Pokémon TCG Pocket adding the trading experience along the way. Sooner or later, Pokémon will have completely enveloped the mobile world.
