Mega corporation Netflix is staying in the gaming world after seeing success with the Grand Theft Auto and Squid Game franchises. Netflix offers subscribers games to download for no additional cost to play on both mobile devices and TVs. There have been some great games on there, but the service may have been initially overlooked by a lot of subscribers. Now, however, Netflix appears to feel that it has momentum.

According to a report from Pocket Gamer, Netflix co-CEO Gregory Peters stated during the company’s Q2 financial earnings call that Netflix will continue to license games and develop its own titles. He also teased a β€œwhole new set of interactive experiences” that will be released over the next year.

Netflix Gaming Wants To Become A Major Gaming Player

The Subscription Juggernaut Is In It For The Long Haul

As of 2025, Netflix is the most popular streaming service in the world with over 260 million subscribers. As a common household service, it isn’t too surprising that Netflix would wish to expand its offerings further. On top of the games being free, the titles currently available on Netflix do not feature ads or in-app purchases, making it an appealing gaming outlet for some users.

New Netflix Data Reveals Just How Many People Are Signing Up For The Ad-Supported Plan

Data about new Netflix sign-ups has arrived, and it reveals the surprising truth about how many people are signing up for the ad-supported tier.

According to Peters, Netflix’s gaming goals are to establish an infrastructure first, before making additional decisions, saying: β€œWe want to remain disciplined in not investing too far ahead of demonstrating that we know how to translate that investment into value for our members.” When questioned about changes in monetization, Peters stated that the current free model is fluid, but there’s a lot of work to do before that conversation is on the table.

Netflix Games Already Has Some Great Titles

Dead Cells, GTA, And More

Dead Cells Queen and the Sea Shark DLC

In what might be surprising to many, Netflix Games has some great titles available in a lot of different genres. Roguelike Dead Cells is on the service, as well as the aforementioned GTA San Andreas. Street Fighter 4 CE is also available, as is one of the most popular card games: Exploding Kittens. The only big negative regarding the service is the same one that other game subscription services have: the sudden removal of titles, like Hades being removed earlier this month.

With several great games on the service already, Netflix’s commitment to making Netflix Games a compelling incentive for subscribers and less of a niche gimmick is interesting. It remains to be seen if the service will get more popular, but if unique experiences are released and marketed well, Netflix subscribers’ ears are likely to perk up.
