North Korea bought water skis, video games from China ahead of resort opening | NK PRO

Trade data shows hundreds of thousands in leisure imports, while human hair and fabrics again drive exchange

North Korea imported hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of water skis, billiards gear and air conditioning units in June as the country prepared to open a massive new beach resort, according to Chinese customs data, likely in violation of U.N. sanctions prohibiting the DPRK’s purchase of recreational equipment.

But long-time import staples like human hair and fabric continued to dominate bilateral trade under suspected production outsourcing schemes.

Water skis, surfboards and other water sports equipment topped the list of recreational products with a value of $272,330, followed by billiards accessories at $142,123, according to
