Newcastle to make star one of their highest-paid players as Premier League giants loom

Tino Livramento will reportedly be offered one of the top wages at Newcastle amid transfer interest from Manchester City.

The right-back has been an excellent addition to the Magpies since he signed from Southampton in 2023 in a reported £40million deal.

Livramento has a deal that currently runs until 2028 at St. James’ Park but could be offered fresh terms this summer.

As reported by The Telegraph, Newcastle will propose a six-year deal in a bid to fend off interest from Premier League rivals City.

Should he sign, Livramento will become one of the club’s highest-paid players.

City, whose manager Pep Guardiola is said to be keen admirer of the defender, would be willing pay £65m.

Livramento has featured 80 times for Newcastle and was key to their Carabao Cup winning run last season.

He has mostly played at right-back, but spent the latter stages of the 2024/25 campaign at left-back amid an ankle injury to Lewis Hall.

The former Chelsea youth star has become a reliable asset for Eddie Howe and one of the best-performing Premier League full-backs.

The youngster also played a starring role for England’s Under-21 side at this summer’s U21 European Championships.

Livramento started five out of six games, including the 3-2 win over Germany in the final, as Lee Carsley’s side retained their U21 European crown.

The 22-year-old could be a costly departure should City sign him, but a new contract would come as a big boost for Newcastle.

It’s already been a difficult summer for them having lost out on Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike.

Pedro completed a £60m move to Chelsea and then won the Club World Cup, whilst Ekitike is heading to Liverpool for a potential £79m.

The future of Alexander Isak has also been an uncertainty after a 27-goal season for Newcastle.

He was left out of their 4-0 pre-season friendly defeat to Celtic amid links with Liverpool, who were willing to make a bid.

However, Ekitike’s pending switch from Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool may well have ended the possibility of an exit this summer.

Newcastle continue their pre-season schedule in Asia with fixtures against Arsenal, a K-League XI and Tottenham.

Espanyol and Atletico Madrid then visit St. James’ Park before their first Premier League fixture against Aston Villa on August 16.
