Netflix is planning to increase its investment in gaming while also evolving its monetisation model, according to the company’s latest earnings call.

Greg Peters, Netflix’s co-CEO, said the company sees short-term monetisation for games much like it does for new content categories like scripted series or films. “If we deliver more value to our offering, we get increased user acquisition, we get increased retention, we get increased willingness to pay,” Peters said. “So it drives all of the sort of core fundamentals of our business.”

He added that Netflix’s current gaming investment is still small compared to its overall content spend, but that will change. Peters cited progress with recent titles like GTA: San Andreas and Squid Game: Unleashed as encouraging signs, and said viewers can expect more in both franchises over the next year.

In other news, back in June, Netflix delisted more than 20 games, including popular titles like Hades 2 and the Monument Valley series. Netflix has also announced a live-action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, which will be led by Roberto Patino and David Wiener.

Separately, Netflix has added Blood Line, a game based on Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, to its growing game library.
