An incredible-looking trailer for a Doom mod called “Fallout: Bakersfield” has been released, revealing a first-person shooter in the style of the first two Fallout games, one that may tide fans over until the next game launches.
Doom has been the subject of countless crossover mods over the years, owing to how easy it is to alter the game’s files. In the modern era, most fans use GZDoom, as it’s not only very easy to mod, but it’s full of QoL features that make it easy to update the game for modern hardware.
A trailer on the Saur X YouTube channel has shown gameplay footage of Fallout: Bakersfield, a mod for GZDoom that’s set in the post-apocalyptic Fallout wasteland. The graphical style perfectly emulates that of the first two Fallout games, which had far more basic rendered visuals than the later games.
Fallout: Bakersfield Looks Like It Could Be An Official Game

Fallout: Bakersfield is set in California and features a Vault Dweller facing familiar enemies from the franchise, including Ghouls and Super Mutants. Unlike most Doom mods, Fallout: Bakersfield seems to have RPG elements, with the player able to converse with NPCs and pickup items in containers around the environment.
It’s currently unknown when Fallout: Bakersfield will launch. The trailer ends with a progress bar at 60%, which means it could be a few more years down the road. This is assuming the developers don’t receive a cease and desist, but this project should be fine, considering how id and Bethesda are cool with mods, like Fallout: London.
It was recently rumoured that Fallout 5 has finally been greenlit, but that game is still many years away, possibly not until the 2030s. Hopefully, Fallout: Bakersfield will beat it to the punch and give fans some new Fallout content to tide them over during the wait.
