Tottenham Hotspur are now turning their attention to a Crystal Palace centre-back, but it is not the North London club’s long-term target, Marc Guehi.
Tottenham are very well stocked at centre-back, with Thomas Frank having Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin, Kevin Danso, Ben Davies, Kota Takai and Luka Vuskovic at his disposal.
Despite this, we are seeing reports suggesting that Spurs are exploring moves for central defenders over recent days.
Tottenham are reportedly willing to pay over £60m for Bournemouth’s Illia Zabarnyi, and it has now emerged that the Lilywhites are turning their attention to another Premier League defender.
Tottenham are one of several clubs interested in Maxence Lacroix
According to a report in L’Equipe, Tottenham Hotspur are now exploring a move for Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix.
Lacroix arrived at Selhurst Park just last summer from Wolfsburg, and the Frenchman had a decent debut campaign in the Premier League.
However, it is asserted that the Eagles may be open to making a quick profit on a player whom they paid €18m (£15.6m) for 12 months ago.
Spurs are expected to face plenty of competition for Lacroix, who is also allegedly wanted by Borussia Dortmund and several Serie A sides.
Is this evidence that Tottenham fear losing Cristian Romero?
Reports over the last week have suggested that Cristian Romero looks likely to stay at Tottenham this summer.
However, the fact that the Lilywhites are continuing to look at various centre-backs suggests that the club fear losing their vice-captain.
Thomas Frank batted away questions about the possibility of Tottenham needing to replace Romero, but the worry for Spurs fans is that the Argentine has just two years left on his deal and does not look any closer to signing a new contract.
