Tottenham Hotspur fans will get an idea within the next 48 hours if the Morgan Gibbs-White deal is moving forward or if the deadlock between Nottingham Forest and the North London side will persist.
Tottenham will take on Reading in their first pre-season friendly of the summer this afternoon, and Thomas Frank would have hoped to have Morgan Gibbs-White feature, given that the North London club activated his release clause more than a week ago.
However, his move to Spurs has been held up by Nottingham Forest, who have accused Tottenham of making an illegal approach to Gibbs-White and are furious that the London side found out about the midfielder’s confidential release clause.
According to reports over recent days, Daniel Levy and Tottenham’s legal team expect the Gibbs-White deal to go through, and are of the opinion that their activation of his £60m clause was legitimate.
We will find out soon if Morgan Gibbs-White’s move to Tottenham is progressing
Spurs Web previously relayed a report which claimed that Gibbs-White had set Monday as the deadline for his Tottenham transfer and that the attacking midfielder was still keen on a move to N17.
The reason Monday is an important date is that it is when Nuno Espirito Santo’s men fly out to Portugal for their pre-season training camp, which the 25-year-old does not want to be part of.
Forest play two friendlies in Portugal, taking on Fulham on Saturday, July 27, before playing Estoril Praia three days later.
Spurs fans will thus be keeping a keen eye to see if there is any movement in the Gibbs-White saga over the next two days and whether the midfielder does get on the plane to Portugal.
Nottingham Forest may send a hint on Gibbs-White this afternoon
Just like Tottenham Hotspur, Forest play their first pre-season friendly of the summer this afternoon, taking on Monaco at the City Ground.
With the game presenting a chance for Nuno to try out his preferred system and potential starting eleven for the upcoming season, it will be fascinating to see if he starts Gibbs-White.
If the Portuguese coach expects the 25-year-old to leave the club, he might not be keen to start him against the Ligue 1 side.
