Other video game distribution storefronts, including Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect, added the UPI payment method weeks ago.
Buying games just got easier for Indian users as Steam has officially added UPI (Unified Payments Interface) as a payment method.
Until now, Indian players had to rely on credit cards, debit cards, net banking, or card services like Visa and MasterCard to purchase games or DLC on Valve’s storefront. The new UPI option streamlines the process and allows refunds to go directly back to a user’s UPI-linked account.
We tested the new UPI method by purchasing two games from different accounts. The entire process worked smoothly. No payment freezes, and the UPI QR code appeared immediately, which we scanned using a phone payment app to complete the transaction without issues.
While Valve hasn’t made an official announcement, the addition seems to be a response to growing demand from Indian players. Other storefronts like the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect had already introduced UPI support, which may have nudged Steam to follow suit.
If you want to give the UPI implementation on Steam a go, you can check out the Automation Fest sale, which has discounts on games like Satisfactory, Mote Mancer, Astro Colony, Dyson Sphere Program, and more.
